Got a question for you guys about the driveshaft setup on a '05 Rubicon. If I understand right there's already a factory SYE and all I need to do is upgrade to a CV type driveshaft to avoid vibrations after I put on a lift kit. Does that sound right?

Yes, the Rubicons since '03 have had their own Tcases that already have a rear yoke instead of a slip yoke. There are some problems involved, and the biggest one is that the bolt pattern doesn't lend itself to adapting a standard drive shaft.

Tom Woods solved that by producing his own adapters. It bolts to the balancer/dampner that DC supplies. That in turn allows a standard CV yoke to bolt on.

What most reputable drive shaft makers will suggest is that you do your lift and then call them with the exact measurements. That does require your jeep to sit idle till they ship you the new one, but you have a better chance of getting a perfect match.

If you decide to go it alone, consider how you're going to do the adapter. Remember, balance is a big priority. Also understand that you'll be adding in 5 grease fittings when you do it. All need routine service. That means like everytime you dunk it under water, take it home and give it a new shot. Sure makes the things last longer when you take care of them.

Stupid Take care of all your joints, i agree that they will last much longer. You can even get a u joint needle adaptor and grease the cv joints on a regular basis as well.

Thanks for the clarification on that. I'm looking at getting a Full Traction 4" kit which OffroadToyStore sells with a driveshaft from Tom Woods. Does that sound like a workable package?

Id make sure it comes with rear adjustable upper control arms, and the balanced adaptor for the driveshaft for rubicons. Other then that u should be ok. Do you have a parts list for the package, or a link where we could view?

See, that kit just states its for a tj. I would give them a call up and see if you can get the same kit for your rubicon. It also is going to have a different sye and driveshaft, because the rubicon has the factory sye at the transfer case. Like stated in the comments on the site, the springs are stiff, and there is no way to adjust the rear pinion angle, which is needed for a sye and cv shaft.

Thats a great kit, and one of the best short arms on the markets. The ride is improved because of the triangulated rear, and lack of track bar for bind free flex. If your going to spend that much, might as well save a few more pennies and buy a long arm.
