So I ordered an '05 Rubicon and it arrived at the dealership yesterday. That's a big YAAY! except for the fact that I'm in the Navy and deployed to the Persian Gulf for the next 6 months. So, that gives me about that long to save money and think of mods and gadgets for her when I get back. I'm getting lots of awesome ideas from you guys on the boards, but does anybody have any specific or juicy advice? Things to do first, and things that can wait? I'm gonna have a budget of about $4k.

Stupid We can take turns up paragon! Well, id do the basics with the 4 grand, keep the gears and lockers you have, do a long arm, skid it up, tire carrier and bumpers, throw on a winch, put some meats on it, either 33's, or if u think u can deal with it being a little sluggish 35's. Maybe even put on a bolt on cage, or something similar. Get some recovery gear. Wait, did u say 4g's...

personally if I owned a Rubi, the first thing I would do would be to get rid of that shovel skid and put on a nice tummy tucker to protect the engine and tranny, then armor the rest of the underside (differentials, gas tank, etc.), then wheel it to figure out how you want it and then go from there,,,oh wait I do own a Rubi Smile, thats what I'm doing to mine, I have been really impressed with the functionality right out of the box, once I get my medic skids on and have it armored, I plan on throwing on a 2" BB and some 33's and it will likely stay that way intil I get it paid off, then I may or may not lift it more, with the tummy tucker and the 2" BB and the 1.25" BL, 33's, etc. I will be looking at least 3.5" of net lift due to the clearance gained by the mods, so thats fine with me.

Stupid I do agree with Kerry. Skid it up, drive it like u stole it, see how it suits you. Then build to your needs/desires.
