Well, I've been doing a bunch of work on the Jeep lately, bumpers, winch, 33's, and put in front and rear Dana 44s with 4.88 gears and Eaton Elockers. Rear driveshaft was to long, so I got a JB conversions shorty SYE to put things back right in the rear end. Now my speedo is about 20% off. So far my research has come up with 2 ways to correct the new electronic speedo pickup, since the gear drive is removed by the SYE to get the extra 2 inches. The Dakota Digital adapter and the Superlift Tru Speed. Haven't found much on either, anybody out there have any experience with these?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

I have heard the superlift calibrater works good, and has varied settings for muiltiple tire configurations.

The stuff I've used from Dakota so far has been good. We installed their fan controller on a Bud's TJ a few weeks ago. Works pretty well. I've heard of some guys on ROF getting 'spikeyness" out of the speed controller, but who knows if they got it calibrated right.

Final page of this article (right here on Rockcrawler) discusses the Dakota Digital that I installed on my TJ: JB Conversions Short Shaft Kit

Here's the direct link to page 4: Dakota Digital in JB Conversions Article

Hope it helps...

on the ZJ I installed the Truespeed from Superlift and it works flawlessly.
Like mentioned above it has 2 settings (with a switch) so you can have the speedometer calibrated for 2 different tire sizes (street - offroad or winter - summer for instance) and have the correct reading at the flip of the switch.
And in case you change tire size again in the future, all you have to do is adjust the settings

Thanks for the info, the Dakota Digital looks even easier now, hook it up and just hit up or down buttons. I'll probably go that route it looks like because according to the info on Superlifts website, theirs doesn't cover 4.88 gears.

I have used the Superlift tru-speed on past 4x4s. It works well but it's a pain to hookup. Lots of wires to splice.

I've never used the Dakota thingy, but after reading the write up on Rockcrawler, I would go with theirs.

Just wanted to add some more info I found out when I called Dakota Digital. They say it'll work just fine in my case, but he was very specific when asking me about what year and style of Jeep I have. Seems they have a problem with Rubicons and the different speedo pickup on the roktrac tcase. He assured me they are working on it, but if you're in the same boat and have a Rubicon, check before you buy this one. I'll let you know how it works in about a week when it gets here and I get it installed and set up.

Well, I finally got the time to install my Dakota Digital speedometer correction unit today. Very simple to install, I found the wire under my hood where it hits the computer, so I didn't have to run wires all the way to the T case. They've improved it since Pagan put his in, there's up and down adjustment buttons and only 4 switches instead of ten. I already knew the error in my current setup (4.88's and 33") was exactly 20% high, so I just used the simple formula in the install instructions and had it set correctly 1st time. Ran on the highway and it was within a couple of tenths at 70 mph according to GPS. Odometer is also corrected, this is one thing that works as advertised. Thanks for the write up that turned me on to it Pagan! Big Grin
