OK, its September. We bought our first CJ7 30 years ago. We ordered a 1978 in August of 1977 and took delivery in September. Thats a lot of time and a bunch of various jeeps over the years. Also a lot of miles, trail rides, hours under the things fixing and changing stuff.

I've been an old man for a long time now. Now I've clawed and chewed my way to a new status. Probably a testiment to my stupidity, but its been fun.

Congrats Dick! Maybe some day I'll be able to say the same thing. I'm only on my third Jeep and liking it the best so far. I started back in 93 with a 79 CJ-7. It was a good ole Jeep that scared the crap out of me because the front end needed an overhaul and I was too stupid to do it. Then in 01 came Ol Yeller (#1) an 01 TJ. I wish I still had it too. At least if I had it, I wouldn't have drug my guts going to Grizzly Lake.

The reason you drug your guts probably has more to do with the lack of a lift kit. Well, that and picking the wrong line up out of the creek. One big problem you encounter when running with a group of lifted jeeps is that we pick lines or routes over obstacles that we know work well for our jeeps. Driving an unlifted one the same way can be impossible.

Correct me if I'm wrong here....but didn't we have this conversation a bunch of times before, and hasn't your wife given the OK for the lift? Big Grin Texas may be hot in the summer, but its rapidly going away and becoming fall. Perfect time to crawl under it and do some work.

While you're at it, consider some kind of side step for your wife. I think you missed the little event where she accidently started to get in my jeep (colors are close enough.) After the initial embarassment she exclaimed "hey, thats not fair, you've got a step." Smile My wife's short, if I want her along, I've got to provide access.

Yeah I know if I'd had a lift under it, I'd have been fine with the line I took. It also helps if you hit the locker switch instead of the overdrive switch in the heat of the moment.

And yes she gave the go ahead on the lift. I just haven't settled in on a lift yet. After much debate with myself, I think I'm going to go SA but I can't make up my mind if I want to go with OME ZJ/LJ and someone's arms, or RE 4.5 SF, or FT 4" Ultimate. I know I'm going to do a 1" MML & BL and a belly up skid, so that's the only thing I'm certain of as of now. I like the OME setup, but I'm afraid I won't get as much lift out of it as I want. I'd thought about maybe even running ACOS on all corners to gain the lift I want, but I'm not too sure of what I think about that. The biggest pro for OME would be the ride would be good.

So... until I zero in on a lift, I'm still running low to the ground. As for Thresa needing a step, she's on her own. If she can't get her leg up to the slider bar on the rocker guards, she's out of luck. Run and jump is what I'm thinking.
