buy a Honda Wink
Not kidding -> Jeeps in general just suck gas, since they've got the aerodynamics of a brick ...

The best way to improve mileage if you got a Jeep -> new gearing if you went up in tire size or slowing down (drive 65 instead 75) Smile

Well, I drive my 04 TJ about 100 miles every day to and from work with the following mods:

Banks header
Banks cat back
4.56 gears
36" TSLs
K&N air filter
Electric fan
Manual tranny

And I get a whopping 14 MPG on average. I don't think you're going to get MPG like a little car does, just something you'll have to get used to unfortunetly.

I haven't tried it yet but check out the acetone trick for better fuel mileage. I think I will be trying it soon! Search these posts, you'll find the link!

No surprise.. I think mine can burn a gallon of gas sitting in the driveway overnight Smile

No, thats the neighbor with his hillbilly credit card (a piece of garden hose). Sometimes I wonder how mine can get even worse mileage when I'm not driving it. Just a few hours of easy 4 wheeling can drop your already great 14 mpg down to under 10. It has a lot to do with idling for an hour or two and going .2 miles.

Cab-back, Banks header, air intake, and take your mechanical fan and clutch off your engine and install an electric fan. You take some of the rotational mass off your engine so it doesn't have to work as hard and you should pick up some MPG.

The Acetone Link

Read that article and give it a try. I've been running 1 oz per 5 gallons and it's been yielding me about 20-40 more miles out of every tankfull. I'm getting better gas milage with a topless/doorless Jeep and Acetone than I was with a full top/doors without acetone. Every other year, I'd lose 20 miles or so per tank being topless. So the acetone does actually work for me. Is it cost effective? That's up to you. It's like a couple free gallons of gas every tank.

I tried a few different concentrations of acetone, like the article suggests. Try a 1oz to 10 gallon mixture for the first few tankfulls, than move up to 2oz for a couple, than 3oz. Mine gets the best milage with 2oz per 10 gal. More acetone doesn't necessarilly mean better milage. There is a cut-off point. But if I quit running any acetone for a tank or two, the milage gets worse again. If you try it, you'll more than likely enjoy the extra milage.

btw... Read some of the other attached links on that website. There's a bunch of good information. You'll increase your gas milage by just READING some of that stuff! You may be more consious of your speed, or you may check your tire pressure more often. I'm sure a part of my gas milage increase is because I am now aware of my milage. So I probably drive a little slower, check my tires more often, and draft other cars a little closer. But the Acetone is also working wonders for me.

the best device for better fuel economy is your right foot. i usually drive my jeep a bit hard and its my DD unless im doing work to it. if you Puss(y) foot to the point that its actually annoying to do so, your gas mileage will be a lot better. i went from about 13-14 to 17 by just doing the above mentioned. of course you look and feel like a 89 yr old driving a yugo but hey, its money saved right?!..
