The Km's in my 97 TJ are starting to get up there so i wanna know your thoughts on what size of engine would you put in your jeep if your motor were to blow. I am under the asumption that everyone wants a bigger engine in thier Jeep someday.

Question:
New engine- How BIG? let me know how big a crate motor you would put in. or for you luckey people let me know what you have already put in.

Choices:
crate motor
stroker i6
rebuilt 4.7L v8 (cherokee)

Stock 97 Sahara except for 31's a bedlined interior and new rear bumper with hitch

None of the above.

The best choice would be the 5.7L

I'd like the 6.1 hemi (or whatever the SRT motor is.) Its just not very practical for crawling speeds.

A buddy has a LJ with the hemi. It just cruises down the road. And it gets better fuel economy at 60, 70, and 80 than my wimpy 4.0. Jeep just didn't build in enough power when the castrated the 4.0 a few years ago. Yes, it crawls along just fine. Getting to places like Moab requires low speed and a lot of suffering.

The only problem with the 5.7 is you will have a hard time finding a short manual transmission if you don't go with an auto.
