Ok I just got the lift and tires put on my '05 rubi. "5.5" RE LA lift and 35"x13.50"x15 BFG mudders" Now I need to get something for my foot to rest on while I'm driving (you know exactly what I'm talking about) and to get in and out of it. So Im looking at sidesteps and still sort of like the old tube style nerf bars even though I lose some clearance. I have it down to the Westin signature series or the Hobrecht - Fortis bars. I think the Fortis bars are made of better steel. What side steps do you think look the best (link a pic if you can)

The best bang for your buck (no pun intended) are one of the styles offered by AtoZ Fabrication. Mine have been dragged & slammed against countless rocks with only scratches to show for it - plus they make it a whole lot easier getting in & out.

Stupid A design like that will allow you to keep your clearance, and still allow you to use it as a step. I think AEV makes the same style as the ones Lostwire has, probably a little more expensive though. AtoZ seems like a great product.

Any time you put steps on a jeep, either below the body or along side the body, you're going to make a big compromise. You gain a little protection for your tub, you make it easy to get in and out, and you almost guarantee that you'll hit it at some time in the future.

I have a wife that's only 5' tall. She really likes that steps, so I put them on and take them off, depending on how I feel at the time.
On full, week long trips its much easier for her to have the help. If I bang up the jeep, I'll just drive it dented. Or buy a new one.

The hardest thing to learn is where your low spots are and how to drive to avoid them. With most TJs, the belly is exposed to all kinds of hard and nasty things. This just leaves another. The one's I'm currently running are from M.O.R.E. I selected them because I liked hte way that they mounted and how easy it was to take them off. I had no idea how poorly engineered the rub rails were and how badly they installed. You live and you learn.

Still better than the monstrosities that hang down, out or both!

I've got the FXD rockers skids, looks like the aforementioned skids. Works very well. My kids use them to get in and hang on , jump off and ... you get the idea, great mod.

I can't wait till the strap snaps and has your shin fly into the door sill with all your weight behind it. Wow that would hurt. Great idea though!

I've got the rocker bars from Shrockworks. They looks like similar to the AEV, Poison Spyder or A to Z steps. My wife is 5'4" and with my 36s, 8" springs and 1" BL, she can grab the roll bar grab handle and get in and out with ease. In my opinion, you won't be happy with the westin brand style that hang down. Those style of bars are more for dress up than severe duty. A couple of good cracks against some rocks and those will be dimpled/bented/crushed.

I wanted to comment, although I don't have any on mine yet. I kind of like the tube style ones myself such as what you were looking at. Although I have been looking at the ones from jeeperman where it is drilled into the frame and not the tub. And even though the newest ones are the rage, I shutter when I think about drilling into the side of my tube even to put some of those on. But to each his own. Just want to give you my 2 cents. In the end, get what you like! I'd ratehr have the ones that mount to the frame instead of the tub though. Hope this helped.

thats kind of along the lines of what I was thinking.......especially since the rubicon already has pretty good rocker panel guards/rock sliders on it. although I like the other ones that the others mentioned.

When it's all said and done, you are the only person who has to be happy with the step bars on your Jeep.
