I installed a Rubicon Express 4.5 Superflex lift on my '03 Rubicon and find that the front passenger side spring sits a little over 1" lower than the driver side. When measuring from the bottom coil to the top coil on both sides at the same point on the springs, the coils measure 15.5" and 16.5" respectfully. Has anyone else run across this problem? It's almost like they sent me one 4.5" spring and one 3.5" spring for the front. I have compensated for the difference with a 1" spring spacer on the passenger side and have written Rubicon Express with my problem. No word as of yet.

I know with OME at least, the driver side springs are made a dash higher the compensate for the weight of the driver. How much higher, well, I don't know - smarter people than I will have to weigh in.

I have had the same problems:
1) Check the front/pass spring to make sure it is rotated correctly in its bucket. Mine had a small bolt tie down so the spring would not rotate and come up lower. 2) The rear/pass will be the low one because that is your torque wheel. 3) The only way to correct the rear springs was to cut all my brackets off and rotate them forward 17 degrees. Other wise they slide and pop out. And come up with odd heights. 4) Put the RE bracket kit in that has a bolted plate on the bottom so the spring does not rotate or pull out. 5) Moved the springs around - used new boosters - but in the end I got stronger rear springs and did the bucket rotation - that solved the problem - had it for five years. 6) To be sure that I had a problem I started using a tape measure and recording the heights of each corner of the jeep - seemed that no matter what I did OR the jeep would always come back with different measurements. |

The final fix came when I was doing rear axle repairs - I bought the heavy duty RE bracket kit and had the entire bracket set replaced on the axle.
The rotation for may 4.5 lift with the LA suspension was close to seventeen degrees - the RE kit has a flat bolt/plate on the bottom of the new spring bucket - that keeps the spring from rotating and popping - keeps the ride height even. This also got the week track bar bracket fixed (broken once) moved the shocks to the right location so they did not have to be upside down - and allowed me to get the arm location stock so the axle pops/jack. Also tweaked the track bar and moved the axle back about two inches. All in all the entire rear axle fix cost me almost 1500. 98/97 TJ, 4.0L, Atlas II 4.3 4.56 & ARBs, RE LA 4.5 Lift,BFG 35 6 pt cage, 5 pt belts, Beard seats, 2 compressors, 2M -6M radio, Winch, BP Bumpers,Sliders,K&N,RS 9000, RE track bars F/R, 24 Gal Tank, D30F/D44R, Steel 15x8 and an F-250 recovery vehicle... |
