Just wanted to know who out there was running the series 40 on their TJ and what you thought about it? What else did you have to get to make it work besides the muffler itself? Anybody think this is too loud for a daily driver? thanks!

Steve

I like mine, its a little loud and drones at hiqhway speeds (when I have the hard top on) but its not bad. It does have a good sound to it though.

I love mine & it's meaty sound has received quite a few complements from fellow Jeepers. The 40 really has a nice throaty rumble that isn't too bad on a day-to-day basis, but when you open her up & the tach gets to around 3k the noise level starts increasing. On my I6 it produces certain frequencies which are reminiscent of a V-8 but over all it really has a character & sound all it's own. In addition to the 40 I also added a fast cat so your results may vary.

Hey Lostwire
Did you do the install yourself? Did you change any of the factory pipes or just install the muffler? Are you running the original 40 series or the new delta flow 40? Trying to see if I can just get a 40series original without replacing all the pipes and maybe put a new tip on the end...I was looking at the Flowmaster site and the only 2.50 with the right application of inlet center outlet offset was the new delta flow 40...anybody know differently? Thanks!

Steve

There's a shop near me who did the install. All the pipe is stock since they aren't set up to bend, & the muffler is the original 40 with the offset you mentioned above.

Thanks lostwire! One or two other questions that came to mind...how much did they charge you to do the install? And one other question...my buddy is running the original 40 on his CJ without the catalytic converter...sounds nice and loud...us with our TJ's have a catalytic converter, my question is this...I like to be able to hear my music, have a decent system in their and was wondering if I won't be able to hear it anymore if the interior noise is that loud...thanks again!

I can't help ya with how a 4.0L TJ will sound, but my 03 Chevy sounded nice running a 40 after the cat. It was loud but not to the point I had to crank up the radio or yell to talk.

The 40s are loud, but they have a great sound to them. You should be fine, and able to listen to your music.

Thanks for all the replies...it's going to the custom exhaust shop on Monday...they said they will either try and re-use the factory pipes or if they have to bend new pipes it would only cost 100$ more...can't wait to get it done! And hopefully tomorrow I will be able to get the Nth degree front and rear uppers installed and push my rear axle back a bit so I can wheel on the 16th!

I've been told by some muffler shops that I've talked with up here that a series 40 doesn't provide enough back pressure for the I6 engine. Has anyone had any problems with their Jeep not running correctly or anything like that after installing one??
