I drive a 97' 4 banger that has 33's and a 5-speed I plan on keeping the 33's. But I want to upgrade the rear axle at the same time I install 4:88 gears. I have a source where I can get an 8.8 with disks for $100.00 and I figure if I put a super 88 kit 4.88s and TJ brackets (no locker though)on the 8.8 I'll be into it about the same price as a Super 35 kit. The krux is that I don't do a lot of offroading and when I do it is pretty mild. But I still want to be assured that nothing will break. What should I do. and Why?
97' TJ 4 cyl, 5 Speed, 2" Tough Country Spacers, 33" Wild Country ATs, 15x8 Ultra Wheels, Dana 30 front, Dana 35 rear, 4:11 gears.

Personally I would go with the a 8.8 because the 35 has a week housing and isnt worth putting money into it but no need even for the super 88 because with the four banger the 8.8 will hold up no prob.
