My rubicon has 31 inch tires on it .What do you all think about a one inch body lift, and some ajustable spring spacer all the way around. I could get a added height of say three inches, to clear 33 inch tires. What are the pros and con of doing this type of lift, compaired to a standard suspention lift? The reason of course is to save money, that I dont have right now. Thanks Fuzz [John}

I did that to start with in my TJ. It worked fine, doesn't change the ride handling at all, and allows you to clear larger tires. Don't expect great articulation (wasn't an issue for me), though, you'll just gain height.

After working through a small and long arm lift I have concluded that I will save my money for a high quality lift 5-6 inches with all the mods needed to get it to work correctly. I spent more money on tires/wheels and other stuff than it was worth for 18 months with the small lift.

Gonna depend on what you want to do. I mostly run sand and mud in the wooded, flat, SE part of the country. 5-6" of lift in my case is not needed, nor desireable. Enough lift to clear a nominal tire size is perfect, and much cheaper long term than building an extreme rockcrawler.

True - out here in the land of ROCKS 4.5 of lift and one inch of body lift
are about average. With my new unlimited I am going to six inches but with
the body length change it is almost the same. My tire size will not go below
35 - at my age the issue is can I lift anything bigger if I happen to have
injured myself while in the field.

I went to the local 4x4 shop and looked at everything that was being used and
asked people in the local clubs what they needed/wanted and is started with
33 and a 4.5 inch lift. As I got more extreme I moved up to 35/lockers/gears/atlas
etc. But in the end you have to get a good idea of what you are going to do.
Friends , clubs, shops ,etc . My problem is I had no idea how hard the BUG would
bite me -> J=Just E=Empty E=Every P=Pocket

At one time I had all the tires/wheels (12+5) from everything in my garage - and they took up on whole wall... Thank god for ebay and craigslist...

A 1" lift won't clear 33s very well at all. If you do any wheeling you will rub like no tomorrow. Normally a 4" lift is recommended to fit 33's well. If you are tight for cash i'd recommend a 2" coil spacer (not sure if you have coils or leaf spring), the spacer is actually 1 3/4" and runs about $150 (in Canada, so i'm sure you can get a good deal). Getting a 2" coil spacer you can get away with your stock shocks until you have the cash to buy the correct ones (which are not terribly pricey).

im running a 2" coil spacer kit on my tj and riding on 33" xterrains mounted on 8.5"x15 eagle alloys. kit came with hydro 7000 skyjacker shocks. lift clears the 33" just fine. but thats prolly the best bang for your buck low budget lift. but if you get the 2" spacers i suggest in getting some aftermarket shocks. like HOTJEEPCHICK stated above they're pretty cheap.
