Ok, So raised my gas tank into the rear cargo area, built the frame to box it in and decided some mods needed to be made to the fuel filler neck cause it sticks up to far.

I pulled it off the tank (smart). and decided I can cut about 1"1/2 - 2" off the length and weld it back together. All was good until the welding part took place.
Here I was welding the parts back together when I heard a "poof". I turned the filler neck up to look inside and instantly couldnt breath due to a ton of toxins comming from inside the pipe. I spit and caughed and rubbed my eyes and caughed some more but soon recovered fine.

Little did I know, but the gas cap screws into a piece of plastic that incerts into the metal fuel neck. I thaught this was all metal and didnt even pay attention to it. Well this plastic incert got really hot and ingnighted. The fumes from that was what choked me out. I said oh well and called it a night. The next day I called the jeep parts shop and they quoted me $98 bucks for that freking thing, I almost fell on the floor. Holy crap. Ended up pulling one from an XJ at the salvage yard for $10 and this one is all metal no plastic. Since I dont have a tig welder I also decided to use jb weld instead of the mig. Should work better then a for this app.

So the moral of the story is..............

Someone was trying to rip you off. That's the part that breaks if you don't adjust the filler tube hose when you do a BL.

I broke one once, and a new one cost me 30-40 bucks. I can't remember the exact price, but it was in that range.

I think he was probably quoting me a price for both the neck and incert, but who knows.
