Anyone out there using either the black diamond, or the 4wd brand lift kits was looking at both of them. Or any other suggestions my budjet is around 600.00.

Thanks

I posted the following on another site about the Black Diamond kit. The wife (now ex-wife) it bought for me. I had my eye on a RE 3.5 SuperFlex. In my opinion it's a starter budget kit and it leaves wanting or needed more. I'm in the process of saving my nickles for a SYE/CV shaft to do away with the transfer case drop. Speaking of the TC drop, the kit does not come with a TC shifter bracket so if you going to use the TC drop, then you'll need to find a solution if your using the stock TC shifter. Hope this helps.

quote:

My wife bought me the Black Diamond 3" lift for Christmas. There are three things I didn't feel comfortable with the install. Let me preface this and state that this was the first time I've ever installed a lift.

Here they are:

1) Drilling the front track bar axle bracket.

I felt that drilling the required hole would be error prone for me. I went with a JKS adjustable front track bar instead. I also didn't want to weaken what appeared to be a already weak bracket.

2) Front swaybar disconnects.

The kit requires you to cut and drill the oem front swaybar links to create quick disconnects. I bought JKS Quicker Disconnects instead.

3) UCA cam bolts

Plain and simple, I didn't like the cam bolts for adjusting the pinion angle and the install method. I went with adjustable UCA's.

All said and done, I could have had gotten a different lift for the money. But I'm happy with it and the ride isn't that much different than stock.

Check out Rusty's Off-Road. They have a 3" lift that will save you a couple hundred bucks and works great. He includes a drop pitman arm.....you won't need it on the jeep but it makes a great troutline weight.

What exactly are you looking for? If your just looking for the springs you could order different parts from companies and piece it together and be well under 600, if your wanting arms and interested in getting complex keep an eye open for people selling their old/new lift kis on ebay and Rockcrawler . Most importantly what is your main goal? Achieving enough lift for bigger tires? Performance? ...you get the idea. Like I said you might be able to strike a deal with people selling their stuff, a friend of mine got a 3.5 RE with everything for $250 from this site so be on the hunt and good luck to you!

I am currently running the 3in black dimond on my 97 like the other gentelmen said its a good starter kit. the linkage for the shifter is the hardest fix tera flex has a linkage drop bracket. the Black dimond kit in my opion it is a good deal for the money it rides and flexes pretty good.however i do suggest new control arms to cure the wondering problems.if you arent in a hurry mine kit will be for sale soon with everything you need. including new control arms. I am planing to goto a RE 5.5 LA kit.

thats my two bits
