I just found out that my enginemounts (the actual rubber stuff) are totally gone...the rubber is all torn up...also the metal strap which is supposed to keep the mount in its place is totally bend. As a result, the eginemounts can move quite alot and are not tightly hold in their place...
Now, i just got those mounts replaced 3 months ago at Offroad Zone...
The question; is it me who caused this by dunebashing or did the garage do a bad job?

Did anyone here have the same experience with jeep enginemounts? Can i get heavy Duty ones or should the original jeep ones be fine?

greets, Phille

TJ mounts are a big problem from the factory. To put it in plain words. THEY SUCK!

You can get poly mounts that will hold up forever (almost). I use Curries mounts. You can get them in standard height, or 1" higher when you use a 1" BL.

You can also get HD rubber mounts from M.O.R.E. They are built much b etter than the stock mounts, and use a harder rubber. I tried them, and didn't see much difference in vibration to the poly Currie mounts, so I went back to the Curries. Both the M.O.R.E and Curries will vibrate a little more than the stock mounts, but you can't have a strong mount without getting a little more vibes. To be honest though. It only seems bad when they are new. they break in after awhile, and mine feel almost as smooth as stock now.

I used to have the Currie poly mounts- they melted.

I switched to the MORE torsion mounts and I am much happier with them. Easier to install, less vibration. They are on sale now too. Smile

I did not do anything. It was the driver's side, near the header. The header is leak free. My engine never overheated. On a trail ride I had my TJ pretty twisted up and the pulley on my York started grindng the fender. That is when I realized my engine was moving around. The poly was soft, and had started bubbling. I called Currie about it, they wouldn't give me a straight answer- forget about a warranty. I started asking around the net, and it turned out quite a few people were having the same problem.

I switched to MORE and realized they transmit less vibration. I recommend them over the Currie mounts.

I've seen pics on PBB of the M.O.R.E mounts with the rubber torn apart.

The M.O.R.E mounts that I tried vibrated bad. Much worse than the Currie mounts. I'll have someone from this forum sit in my Jeep next time we go out. It's glass smooth at idle.

I thought you just said there wasn't a big difference, but switched back to the curries after trying them both? (possibly to have the advantage of polyurethane)

I don't put much stock in stuff posted on PBB- people there try to trash their junk. Anyone can rip a motor mount under the right circumstances- at least the MORE ones didn't melt. Big Grin

Did you have the MORE mounts with poly or the torsion rubber? I have no doubt the MORE poly ones transmit more vibration the Currie- the Currie ones are softer, which is why I think they melted after 2 years of use.

I installed the MORE mounts with torsion rubber after the Currie mounts and I did notice a huge decrease in vibration. I also have a poly transmission mount- and at idle my Jeep would vibrate so much I could feel a harmonic oscillation in my seat (tickled my butt). It went away after switching motor mounts. Another difference was the MORE mounts moved my engine up about 1/8" (both were 1" raised mounts). I had to rearrange a few things after I noticed some rubbing on my hood.

I assume you have a rubber transmission mount, and probably have less vibration than my Jeep to begin with.

My YJ has MORE rubber mounts. It viberated kinda bad when they were first installed but after a little while they "broke in" and are trasmit very little to no viberations at all.

I have the stock tranny mount. I thought the Currie mount vibrated when I first installed it, and that's why I tried the M.O.R.E mount (torsion rubber). It actually felt worse than the Currie, but I didn't give it a chance to break in, but the Currie wasn't broke in either. One thing I did notice about the M.O.R.E mount was it moved the engine more than the Currie. I could tell, because my York was hitting the fender, and it didn't with the Currie. For that reason, and worse vibes. I went back to the Currie. Right away I noticed less vibes. What kind of snuck up on me was the vibes gradually went away with the Currie mount, and I just finally noticed how smooth it was now. I'm sure the M.O.R.E mount would have gotten smoother too, but when they were both new. The Currie felt better, and moved the engine less. So, i'm not sorry for staying with it.
