The one on my 2003 just spins with no detents or stops. Spinning it also doesn't change the air or if it comes from the floor or defrost vents. It just blows air from all of them (I think.) Somethin's obviously wrong, but I haven't taken all the trip pieces off to see what's not making contact. Anyone got a guess?

I believe the plastic of the knob has partially busted, allowing the knob to just spin...from what I've read long before. I remember reading long time ago somewhere that a company makes billet aluminium replacements for $40 or $50! Eek

I'm a little more frugal, there's a junkyard near me that is Chrysler specific, I may be able to find you one there as long as tornadoes haven't blown it to Oz. Should only be a few bucks.

I'll double check FSM when I get home to verify my failing memory on fixing this.

Dick,

Here's an excerpt from the 2003 FSM...

quote:
The heater-only or heater-A/C control panel cannot
be repaired. If faulty or damaged, the entire unit
must be replaced. The illumination lamps, the blower
motor switch, and the control knobs are available for
service replacement.

No procedure for the knob, it must pull straight off I would guess. If you want more info or pix from the FSM, just shoot me an email at fyathyrio@midsouthjeeps.com or PM same name on that board, I'll answer quicker.

I know the 97's are different, but about 6 years ago I had to replace my whole control block. Between the dust and spilled beverages, it just died. I also had to blow out the vacuum lines. jeepsareus.com has them for what I thought was a very reasonable price.

I've had the same thing happen on my '99 and '03. The plastic is just too weak for the application. I reinforced it with JB weld, clamped it overnight, no more problem.
