i feel your anguish! i've been getting unusually low oil pressure readings myself lately. i hear that a tj can idle at about 10psi and drive at 40+ and its fine. i am getting about 8-10 at idle and it has NEVER been that low before. i have 115k on the motor. im told to replace the oil pressure sending unit. it is directly above the oil filter, simply screws into the block and has a snap wire plug to it. its 30 bucks at autozone. personally i just think that my engines seal, compression, rings, blah blah blah is wearing out. im just gonna pull the engine and have it rebuilt. i dont like to waste money on the hope its this hope its that game. if its a relatively low mileaged jeep then get the sending unit. then inspect the actual guage, then the oil pump, then if all fails, your f'ed.... lol..
Dont ever have a drunk spotter!

I think the bearings you are referring to are the crankshaft bearings whick are what your crank sits on, only way to check those is to pull the oil pan and the crank shaft.
