I just purchased my first CJ7. It has been redone from front to back. I eventually want to get a new rear bumper but am strapped for cash after buying it.

My question is, it has a bumper on the back that is to put your ball in and tow with. It is nothing more than a strip of flat metal that comes out and down with three holes in it. I don't know much about jeeps.

Can I tow my 15 ft jon boat and trailer with this safely?

I wouldn't. remove it and buy a class 3 hitch for around 100 bucks and install it back there.

My 80 CJ5 has the same rear bumper/ tow point I have yanked pretty hard pulling others out of the mud and never had a failure. I think you'd be okay pulling your jon boat. I wouldn't pull a large cabin cruiser, but your jon boat don't weigh much so it will be okay.

Thanks for the replys. I did a test run and now I have a problem with the trailer hitting the spare tire. One thing after the other!

I will eventually get a receiver bumper for it. I have alot to learn about my jeep. I do love it though!

Is the tongue of the trailer real short or the tire real wide? Since it's a spare could you go with a skinnier tire?

It you go with a reciever hitch get one built into the bumper. This will help with your departure angle.

The original hitch on my CJ5 was always getting hung up on stuff. The upside was I never hit the back of the Jeep as the hitch hit 1st.
