I have an 84 cj without a brake booster. I've been told that you can take a booster off of a ford e-250 van, and it will match up with the existing hardware on my jeep. Has anyone heard of this, and if so, what year of van am I looking for to take the parts off?

I haven't heard about using that booster. I have heard of using a YJ booster and an E-350 master cylinder (late 80's-early 90's) for a disc/drum set up. I just used a YJ booster on my 83 CJ-7 with a 78 Merc Grand Marquis with 4 wheel disc for my disc/disc setup and it was a bolt on. If you use a CJ booster and run 4 wheel disc you will need a Corvette master.

401TON, thanks for the info. I'm going to keep looking for something to improve my braking. I just don't want to buy a bunch of stuff at the junkyard, and then have it not work. I still have the drums in the back, so maybe the YJ booster is the way to go. Anyway, thanks for your time.

My buddy uses the YJ and e-350 master and says he can stop his 39.5's well. The YJ booster is probably better because it is a dual diaphram type unit, more power. Good luck.

here's the info I got from one of my buddies:
--------------------------------- The following are part numbers from Oreilly Auto Parts for the brake booster and master cylinder: Brake booster part number is 54-71050 and costs about $101.99 plus a $20 core charge Master cylinder part number is 10-2352 and costs about $29.99 plus a $10.00 core charge The General Motors part numbers are as follows: Brake booster 18010582 Master cylinder 18013978 You will need a brake booster bracket from a Jeep YJ which I had to order from a junk yard online since they are not available at the Jeep dealer. You will have to drill out the holes a little larger on the bracket where the booster bolts to the bracket, but that is about all you have to do since the push rod that attaches to your brake peddle is already the right length when it comes with the booster. Last you will have to remove and bend the strut rod on the Jeep a little to make room for the larger booster. Your current brake lines will screw directly to the new master cylinder so you don’t need any new fittings. You should be able to bolt every thing up in less than an hour (less bleeding the brakes). ----------------------- That's what I'm about to do to my CJ7 |

I'm new but I guess even us old guys should be able to learn from you young studs. I have an 89 jeep with a 6 cylinder engine and 5 miles of emission hoses. Most are ripped off due to constant ranch use. I want to know if I can just pull them all off and put a standard carburator on this thing. I assume it won't mess with the timing?

I think you should start a new post in the YJ area. You'll may get better response there.
My sugestion would be to buy a Webber carb. If you did a little searching here or on ebay you can probably find a used one. AMC 401, Howell TBI, NP 435, Atlas 4.3, Shaved 14 bolt, Rock Crusher 60, Stazworks Double Beadlocks, 42's and 110" Wheelbase |
