ok ive got some questions, ive got a dana44 front, and a dana60 rear from a 78 cherokee. im about to put them under a cj (still havent got it yet but its commin) the axles are about 8" wider than stock, and from what i can tell the axle tubes are about 3.5" thick. First question, has anyone done a swap similar to this, if so were there any problems with the swap. second question, my logic on a SOA swap is that it would give me about 4" of lift, is this thought process correct? this is RARELY going to be onroad, i'm fabbing fenders that are wider, i plan on running 42" swampers. anyone have some ideas on fender/wheels/overhang combinations?
Yes to most of your questions. I have done everything you are planning to do except I made a detopur to a rear 44 however after I get a few other projects completed I will put my 60 in. For the lift you will gain about 4.5-5in. Was the front axle soa or sua? If sua I'd look for a mid 70's chev. axle as they are already soa on the pumpkin other wise there is a bit of grinding in your future. you will need to outboard your springs on the front end. How good of a fabricator are you? The rear axle will be a piece of cake just cut off the old perches and weld some new ones where they need to be build a traction bar to prevent axle wrap and presto.the front is a bit more complicated due to pinion angle and proper caster. If you want to know more let me know.
