I currently run a halfway decent 72 CJ5 and a few years ago I bought a tricked out 74 frame and I'm now ready to transfer from one to the other. My question is this: I want to install lockers in my new diffs but don't have the money to but them on both front and back, which should I do first? I'm getting the Lockrights because the reviews were far superior to the Detroits and they are far less expensive than the ARB's.

Back first - you only run a front locker alone
if you have a major problem. Like a broken rear
drive shaft. Sometimes I have seen a limited in the rear and a switchable (ARB/OX) in the front but no one likes it.

Figured I'd try and bring one back from the dead Big Grin

What's the main use of your jeep? Off-road only, daily driver? I have a hard time believing that lock-rights are superior to a full case detroit. I've beaten the crap out of my detroits(front&rear)for over 3 years and have never had a single problem. 3 years prior to that I ran a full detroit in the rear and a tru-trac in front and never had a problem with either. 4 years before that I ran welded in back and open in front and never had any problems with that. When it comes to which locker I've seen break on the trail the most over the last 10 years it's been the lock-right. Now I'm not saying that they're crap and ya shouldn't get them, I've got plenty of friends that run them with great success, it's just my opinion that they're not close to being superior to a Detroit. Sorry for the rambling...back to the question-
rear first.

well if you have the ability to transfer the rest of the vehicle over you must some skills...

weld the rear diff spiders for free (practically) spend the money on the front locker. then start saving for the rear locker. there are disadvantages to this set up but it will work great for the short term and for some long term..

vermont is not in canada !!!

I think it's possible he was talking about the Detroit E-Z Lockers, which are similar to other lunchbox lockers.
