Hi; I just thought to pass on a learning experience that might save a lot of money. If you hear a grinding noise that seems to come from the transmission or transfer case and changes or goes away when you push down or pull up on the 4WD shifter, you may not have an expensive problem, but it will cost you if you take it to a shop. With the vehicle flat on the ground, check the shift cable for contact with the front drive shaft. The shaft will also have a bright ring on it about 1.5" long. The shift cable can come out of the hold-down bracket and rub. This will not be obvious up on a lift because the angle changes when the wheels go down and it doesn't rub anymore. A zip-tie works great and costs nothing, unlike a show that might let you spend a couple hundred dollars finding it.
