I just wanted to know if anyone else has had a broken front axle housing on their Liberty.
Mine high centered on a rock and snapped the aluminum axle housing.
Yes - it is my fault. But I would like people to know that that arangement can not withstand ANY impact. Any Liberty leaving the pavement MUST be equipped with a skip plate. 2000$ repair - not coverd by waranty. (I was following my 2001 Cherokee - it never touched bottom - and would not have broke it it did.
The Liberty has an aluminum differential housing with a aluminum axle housing on one side. They are both anchored on each end. If you drag of bump your differential - you will snap the aluminum housing.
Not Trail Rated!!!!

I've heard that the Libby's front axle housing, a Dana 30C, was weak mainly because its made of aluminum. I doubt there's a way to strengthen it. For now simply try to avoid the big rocks and when you get enough money by a fixed axle, say a Dana44.
