Myself and a couple of friends will be heading down to do the Rubicon Trail in a couple of weeks and just wanted to know what to expect. You can see my Jeep specs below to get an idea of what I have equipment wise. I've driven most of the hard trails in Moab without breaking anything, (knock on wood). What spare parts should I bring, and how much gas, etc.?
I appreciate any and all responses. 99 TJ 6cyl. 5spd. 5.5" RE long arm kit. Dana 44 rear. 4.88s. ARBs f&r. 35" MT/Rs. SYE. OME shocks. Warn 9.5 ti winch. Always remember to stop and smell the burnt rubber. |

Do you have any rocker panel guards?
You'll be fine without them but you may end up with some dings. I've made it thru on a tank of gas and filled up in Tahoe, 5gal extra won't hurt, I've got a 2002 TJ with the 4.5" Long Arm with 33"s. I just got back from a Rubicon trip. I did manage to hit every corner and banged up my panel guards a little bit. But, I don't really care about body damage. You'll have fun. Enjoy. |

you sound better than most of the jeeps that go up there. get some rockers and a skid for your tank and you should be fine. just be prepared w/tools and ujoints and stuff like that. have fun.!

I've got some pretty beefy rocker panels that I had welded on, but I don't have an after market skid plate for the gas tank. Money is a little tight right now, am I stupid to to not have one?

My gas tank skid took a lot of hits tha last time I was on the rubicon. My rock rails took the rest of the big hits. I would not want to be on the rubicon without a gas tank skid. But for the rest of your setup you will be great. You should wiz through with very little trouble.

Yeah, I took some good hits on my tank too. Forgot about that one. I love my Kilby.

You should be fine, but don't go alone.
I made it through with a 94 YJ. 4" lift. 9" rear and D30 front. Rear has detroit and front has tru-trac. I recieved a nice trail trophy on my left quarter panel and poped a front bead once. (Put back on w/ether and a match) Other than that it was a blast. I have rockers but have not had a chance to replace the stock fuel tank plate yet. It hit a few times but nothing major. Just have to pick good lines. Good luck, and have fun! Let us know how your trip goes. 1994 YJ 1995 XJ 2001 WJ |

Just made it through again last weekend. I saw a little carnage mostly to jeeps on 33's and under. I was told that after the jeepers jamboree and jeep jamboree the trail is somewhat easier. But a few spots on Cadilac Hill were still pretty tuff. A few people needed winches on a few spots, first time I saw that but some people said that someone pushed a few rocks over the side that opened up some big holes.

I guess another good question would be does anyone have any good links to a decent trail map? Are there a few places to drop into the trail or is it in one way and out the other? My Pops and me are also thinking of taking our mountain bikes to cruise around on, good idea, or bad? Thanks for all the input.
