I'm "temporarily" JEALOUS Big Grin -

nice job, 'specially that servo mount.......

( frame those stays - they might become collectors items Smile )

seeing how good its natural ability is, I can't believe it will be anything but a great crawler Big Grin

I found that in this mod, brakelines are your friend - many times over. When I remounted my stays to the transmssion mount, I replaced the stock plastic rod and screws with 4-40 threaded rod and brakeline.

I also used it to shim the extra space in the stay mounts. See the forward stay in the image above. I mounted my shocks on the side of the chassis and in order to prevent then from rubbing on the side, I set them off a bit with short lengths of b-line as shims.

If you are going to turn your shock/stay mounts 1/4 turn on the axles, use some rubber to shim the extra gap. I used some rubber pond liner and it worked perfect. Tire tube or something similar would work just as well.

I re-used my stock WK yokes in conjunction with the T Maxx shafts. I opted to use the T Maxx cross balls but you will need to ream out the WK yoke holes just a smidgen. I used a drill bit and twisted it through by hand - for that extra bit of control.

I'd suggest a host of small machine bolts with nylocks. I use 4-40's in .75", 1" and 1.25" lengths. Some fully threaded 4-40 rod won't go astray either.

Good luck and I hope you have the same amount of fun I had doing mine. It really changes the look and feel of this truck!!! I particularly like the loss of all those plastic suspension parts.

Sean

hey SeanD i was wondering. ( as i always do) is it possible to put 4 ws on the rear axle. cause in the pic on the first page of the rear axle makes it seem possible. all you would need would be another servo and a new radio.

You are exactly correct. Whip up another mount, make the links and away you go.

Thanks for that info Sean - just got back with my parts - will head back out once more for the 4-40 rod ( don't have any )..........

while I was out there I noticed an assorted bag of pinions ( the right pitch ) which would let me try different combos... the only thing is, that they are metal, and I believe the spur is carbon ( at least my new one is )...

I was wondering if anyone knows if that causes probs of any kind ??

aahhhh the weekend approaches, and I will spend it buried in the basement ( evil scientist ) preparing my creation Big Grin

MR. SEAND, very good work on this WHEELY KING.

That makes me think that I am in REST for a certain time. I do not have other projects for the moment,
I would like to buy YUKON 1:6 for the autumn. The price is reasonable. $ 100.00/$150.00.
I have to finish with the RUBICON 1:10, my DODGE-RAM will be useful to me for the spare parts.

CHEER for your good work.

Well guys, I took Crawlin' King Snake out for a romp on the rocks tonight. I rigged up the steering links and hooked up the servo and away I went. Man, this thing is capable - even with the 27t motor! There are obstacles that this thing went over that my NB would've said "Whatch you talkin' bout Willis?" (This is an age-appropriate reference to Diff'rent Strokes) I foresee a lot of fun in my near future. Sorry no pics - I was enjoying myself too much.

As for changes - body trims are the order of the day. Lots of rub on the flex - but nothing that a razor balde knife won't fix. I noticed that after some slow climbing the ESC would shut down - a thermal protection which is good but annoying. Until I get the 55t motor which should alleviate this overheating - I am thinking about mounting a small muffin fan to cool the ESC.

Finally after seeing watching others crawl, I can do the same myself!!

For those on the fence (ksully), once you've made the initial purchase, you are so close to a real crawler its not funny. The separation between Wheely King and crawler is so small in work/money, its alsmost a sin not to make that first plunge if you want to enjoy some good crawling.

As many are finding out, the WK is a (GREAT BASE) base for a crawler. Tex: you need to get one too to work your magic!!

Come to the dark side!!!

Sean

p.s. I've had a few drinks before writing this.

You realize that what you just wrote:

"One day, I will have a true RC… but I have to buy an electric bicycle and my budjet is slowed down"

. . . .is an idea for a great blues tune!! Don't all blues tunes tell a story of the hardships of the common man??

I have Muddy Waters' version of Boom Boom Boom live on vinyl. Good sh$ite all around!!

Cheers,
Sean

Congrats ! ! - I've heard of people m
ounting fans to get over this little prob, I myself was wondering about taking an xacto knife to the windows and "venting" it just a tad..... a little more "fresh" air Smile

( parts arrived - 4-40 rod and bolts tomorrow...... better than ... - well almost..
HA )

phatchantz:

the esc was ((VERY HOT)) to touch" and the outside temp was about 3 degrees ((VERY COLD)) so I don't think cutting a few vent holes will suffice. It was bit unnerving when it first happened (no response from truck) but after realizing it just needed a "cool down" period, it wasn't too bad. Shutdown is a helluva better than burnout.

Still mulling over the muffin fan. Maybe tomorrow when my mind is clearer. I'm off to do some body cutting now (on the Kingsnake, that is)

I am more of a Irish/Nfld folk/traditional player, myself. I play tin whistle, flute, accordion and uilleann pipes.

Still, I like the blues.

haha nice nice!

are you using the stock ESC? a fan is a great idea, but i think you are right, once you get a 55t it will be all gooooood, did you order the 55t? what is the overall gear ratio you are using right now?

I put a muffin fan in today and what a difference it makes - no shutdown and the ESC actually stayed cool. For now I a running the fan off a 9 volt battery mounted on the front axle. this is temporary until I figure out a better way to power the fan. The fan is mounted on the interior roll bar and is quite solid.

I finally manged to get some videos. I pulled out my old digicam (circa 1999) that has very basic video capability. These were taken right behind my house. The rocks were a little damp after the rain last night. I find that, often, the video does not do justice to the action - in these videos I did a poor jub of showing the angles of the various climbs. I am incredibly pleased with the tires - their traction is great and they seem to be getting softer as I use them. Anyway, for what its worth, these are my first three (very short)videos:

i like the last video the most. especially the fish tail on the rock at the end. that 27 turn has some good punch to it. do you think a computer fan would work just as well.

P.S
i want a wheely king no doubt in my mind. but my mom says i have too many. i might have to slip this purchase right under her nose. that or bargain with her until she says yes.
