Wassup everybody? Just wanted to drop a line and say hi and show off my new toy I bought yesterday. I found a Blackfoot Extreme chassis with motor, differential and wheels but only rear tires. That's okay because I'm going to use my own tires, body and electronics. I'm excited to finally be getting a decent hobby grade truck Smile

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item...=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=006

I think it looks cool.

In other news I've been tinkering with Midnight Crawler a bit. I removed the black jeep body and mounted the Toyota pickup body from Magnus and the spiked tires. The truck looks friggin awesome but I'm having major issues getting the motors and gearing to work correctly. I discontinued my 4600 MAh parallel 9.6V setup and reverted back to 7.2 volts but that's not working too well either.

So I'm going to try 1 9.6 volt pack again by itself with slower motors. I had been trying to use the 370s but they keep jumping out of the teeth or something..I don't know. Anyway once I get that done, along with Flapding's lowered gearing, the black jeep body will be going back on again along with the All terrains and that truck will become my son's, while I'm playing with my new Blackfoot Smile

Who knows..I'll probably experiment with both bodies and tire sets on the blackfoot. I may leave the Toyota on the old MC chassis cause it looks soo awesome.

Here is a pic of the original Midnight Crawler chassis with the vintage Nikko Midnight Crusher body mounted. This will become YotaCrawler with lowered gearing and UC motors, hopefully at 9.6 volts.

Oh and I think I may have changed my mind on giving it to my son...good thing I never mentioned it to him! Wink

Okay finally finished building and modifying my new Blackfoot Extreme Smile My new ride is sporting full ball bearings, Proline Masher 2000s, a Titan 550 12 turn motor with the XL-5 esc and the former Midnight Crawler black jeep body.

Also did a suspension lift by adding a set of Emaxx oil filled shocks and relocating the lower shock mounting position. In the pics you can see that I mounted the reciever on top of the servo...but I just realized I can move it to that wide flat area in the middle of the chassis so I'll do that soon.

The pinion on the motor is an 18 tooth of what seems to be a 40 or 42 pitch. There are motor mount settings for an 18 tooth or a 20 tooth pinion. I'm really happy with this truck. It's alot of fun with the motor and ball bearings, and the increased ground clearance.

I decided to mount the esc in the 'bed' of the jeep for easy on / off access and setting, and you never want the esc and the reciever to be to close together, else you'll get some mean EMI effect.

Check the pics! I did take a vid but it was really jumpy and made me nervous just watching it so it didn't make the cut.

I like the Mashers, but they are just a little small..same size as the Moabs. I'd like a full 5" tire. I haven't had a chance yet to take them in any serious terrain yet though.

And as far as the build goes it's pretty much finished as it is. I'm only going to relocate the reciever off of the servo. I'm really happy with how my unnamed truck has turned out. It's amazing the difference ball bearings makes upgrading from bushings!

Because my truck is a conglomeration of Midnight Crawler (body and XL-5) and Magnus (550 motor), and Skitzo too I guess (tires), I was kinda thinking of calling my new ride Frankenfoot.

Marmech your reply in the other forum gave me a good chuckle Smile

thanks for fixing the links - pics are good -

I too found the "moabs" to be smaller than what I thought ( 2.2 )
- but still like them all the same -

goes like stink with the 12 turn ?

I've got a set of Rock Claws 2.2 on their way to me right now. At 5" tall they are the "biggest tire Losi has ever made for 1/10th scale trucks"

I like the look of those Rock Claws, those are pretty meaty lookin! The truck does run pretty quick with the new BB set and 12 turn 550 and 18 tooth pinion. It'll really burn with the 20 tooth though, if I can ever find one. I'm hoping with the 550 motor, I'll still have torque with the larger pinion.

I'll try to get a vid for you guys.

If you remember how fast my old black Golden Arrow buggy was though, which I'm going to rebuild for my son and I to race against each other, the buggy was faster with a 19 turn Chameleon Pro 2 than my truck is now. When I rebuild the buggy, it'll be running a Kyosho LeMans super stock 34 motor.

I bought a six pack of pinions to try at my LHS - so I can experiment with different ones....

15,17,21,23,25 tooth for 15 bucks.....

they came from here

http://www.robinsonracing.com/catalog/catalog.html#

have a look under the 48 pitch pinion section, maybe you'll find something there..

My truck's pinion is larger than 48 pitch but smaller than 32..it's like it would be a 40 - 42 pitch or something. I'm going to have to search Tamiya's website and ask for help..or better yet I can just look at the original specs for the truck!

Nice Blackfoot!! I think it is a 2WD version of the Wild Dagger/Twin Detonator/Double Blaze.

Here's a nice Dagger site. It's not too active right now (sound familiar), but has lots of good posts to read. There are several guys there that have made theirs into very capable dual-motor crawlers. I like the idea of a dual-motor crawler, so that if the rear stalls, the front will continue to pull.

RC Dagger Web

The front gearbox on the 4WD version is the same as the rear. You can buy a new gearbox with motor from TowerHobbies for $20. You can swap out the suspension parts and add the dogbones, etc.

Thankyou Sir! Smile I like my Blackfoot too, although it hasn't gotten too much action lately. Yes, the Blackfoot and the Dagger dual motor 4x4 trucks share this chassis (and ironically enough the single motor 4wd chassis of Not a Toy's Tamiya ripoff I think also shares much DNA with the Blackfoot / Dagger chassis)

Those Emaxx shocks are a little longish and I had to kinda cheat to mount them..I think I'm going to have to use some thread locker or superglue on the threads of the pivot pins which hold the wheel hub to the suspension arms which is where the shock is mounted, transferring all that stress to the 'pinhead'.

I'm also somewhat toying with running 9.6 volts through the XL-5 and 550 motor, which they can both handle. I've tried it before but something didn't seem right. I'm in the process of re-addressing the issue though.

Thanks for the link! Oh yeah, I have considered getting a front diff with axles from a Dagger to convert mine to a 4x4 also.
