When I go out with my trucks I bring a portible power pack with me for charging. I can get only a few charges out of this power pack. Then my day is done. I don't charge off of the car battery because I want the car to start.
I was thinking of buying a big power pack mayby with some solar panels. Or a portible generater. Or a combination of both.

I was wondering what you guys do to have enough power to run you trucks all day when you are away from a power source?

i was able to run for about 4 hours on 3 1500mah batteries and one 2200 battery. but it depends on how many batteries you have.

easiest / cheapest - - - - buy more batteries, and have fully charged before you leave

forget the "solar panels" they are more like a trickle charge, would take a week

I have three 3300 maH packs for my Wheely King - that equals over 4 hours of crawling. I don't think I'd need any more time than that. Also, I have a power inverter and 90 min charger for the 1:1 Jeep for charging while "on the road". I've charged batteries with this invertor/charger combo while not driving and never had a problem with starting.

If you're considering buying a portable generator or solar panels for charging batteries, then you've caught the crawlin' bug much more than me - and that's pretty hard to do!!!

I've been doing a little more research into this. My batteries are a couple of years old, and I may not have been charging them properly. I use a quick charger (30min) and the batteries allways got very hot after a charge. And I never did a full discharge to them. I quess you learn something every day.

phatchantz, thanks for letting me know about the slow charge. The panels I was looking at were small ones, and trickle chargers.

I think I will buy some new higher mH batteries.

the solar panels might work if you connect them to a 12 volt car battery for a constant trickle charge and then run your charger off the 12 volt.
