here are some comparison pics ......... the Moabs seem to lower the truck a bit but are far easier to turn than stock or rocks, and stick like glue when climbing - all rims are same size - running rocks and moabs without foam - but may have to change the moabs..... we'll see ...

that's what I thought - double checked the package and specs for tires at "Tower" - right rubber - but they do seem small - I notice that the ground clearance is now an issue, I am whacking the diffs where before I would go right over things....

I really don't want to do it, but maybe it's time for a little "skid" plate for the front diff...

because they are soooo soft, I don't think that they will work with no foam at all, will have to do the foam cutting thing Smile

a heck of alot easier on the servo to turn them though - I think that the stock servo will be ok for these once I get it over the front axle and eliminate all those extra "push" rods - -

did you get those beadlocks that we were looking at before in a thread here ??

you're gonna love those "moabs" - realllly soft - I finally decided to run under-sized foam inserts that I had under the bench ( bought them by mistake ) - they work great so far gives about 1/4 in compression before they go to work----

have fun camping ( don't forget that charger Big Grin )

gonna have to lock the axles to get the full capability of the "moabs" - just a fact of life I guess - here comes the putty Big Grin ( will see how that works before committing to full time lock - worried about "axle snap" )

now if I could just get a second one for bashing...... hhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

yeah i got those axial bealock rims. they look decent and i have seen them around on rcc so they must work good. for locking the axle i am going to get the kit thing from the crawler store. only 15 bucks not bad i guess.

the esc I dunno - pretty sure that I read ( I think that Sean mentioned it too ) that it WON'T fit inside the cover....... but then again it might....... gonna need it, anyway it goes,
anyhow -
it's the recommended gear combo from everything that I have seen........

no much dust in the rocks ( it will be too slow for bashing around with that gearing
anyway Big Grin )

you are supposed to be camping ?? wi-fi ??

The 96t spur gear will contact the inside of the dust cover - but just slightly. I took my Dremel with a fine sanding drum and simply ground down the cover till it fit with no contact. Took all of 10 minutes. I am sure that even if you do not have a dremel, you can simply sand down the inside of the cover by hand.

I am hoping to have my ESC arrive next week. I went with Crawford Performance as the guy was selling the Mopeds in the vendor section of the "other" forum. The seller was VERY accommodating - I suggest you look up the Moped thread in the vendors section to see what I am talking about. I also hope to see my servo next week so that I can put my crawler back together again and try out my new motor and gears.

Cheers,

Sean

Thanks for the info SeanD. Phatchantz i am not going camping until the 15th of july. also where i am going there is no wi fi. No cellphone signals. unless you want to drive down the road to a scenic pull off area that takes about 15 to 20 mins. oh and there is no power after 11 or 12 at night.
one last thing is i saw that build up on rcc it looks awsome that is what i am going by for my wheely king. plus it was done by an hpi company person to boot.

ksully:

I am heading down your way (sort of) in mid July. I'm taking the family down to Maine for a two week camping trip - might stay in Camden Hills State Park and do some exploring from there. Thinking about dropping down to Boston for a day as well -which means a quick stint inyour home state, right. I have a power invertor for the (real) jeep so I can charge my batteries while on the road and do some crawlin' with the King Snake while state-side.

As for phatchantz's oncern about snapping axles while fully locked - this no longer a concern for me 'cause I can whip up a replacement axle in about 1/2 hour using a welding rod (main shaft) and and a ground down hex key (pin) - and it costs next to nothing (less than a dollar each). Once I get my rig up and running again, I will work on making an even stronger shaft. I can't tell you my ideas because then I would have to kill you - just kiddin' of course. Well, I'm kidding about having having to kill you but I can actually make a front axle in about 30 minutes using a drill press, a hacksaw, a bench grinder and a round file.

Cheers,

Sean

i am going camping on the 15th of July. It would be cool if you went to South Arm Camp ground though cause that is where i will be. as for going to boston yup you will be going through my homestate of NH. But beware boston is a very confusing place to navigate. but on the plus side i would have to say the boston museum of science is pretty cool. been there a few times. i am sure you will like it.

We're driving to Maine and should be there on the 17th. Our plans are still pretty unclear that this point. We may go to Boston but I'm really not that keen on driving in/about the city. I spent a week there back in the mid 80's with the Canadian Naval Reserves so I was on a boat and did not have a vehicle - I just walked everywhere. We were also tied up in Portsmouth for a weekend on that trip as well. Dropped over to the Kittery outpost which I thought was a cool store.

oh yeah man the kittery trading post is an awsome place. but if you want to find me in Maine. stay at South Arm Campground. Its a nice place to go and its on a big lake. they do have a website too. ok never mind that website it kinda sucks. but maybe you would have better luck with it. it keeps blocking a pop up. so just google south arm campground. I am not trying to press this place on you just so we could meet up. but it is a rather rustic type place. and just gets you away from everything kinda like a little paradise.
