this one came about quite by accident - I bought what I thought were the proper size inserts to have a go at cutting them up for my "red rocks"..
but when I got them home I noticed that they were smaller in diameter to the originals...

so

if you stick these ones in, it gives the tire about 1/2" to compress with full sidewall strength and no cutting..

have put them in the front pair to test, and am getting great traction..

I tried running the "rocks" with no inserts, but would need "bead locks" to pull it off cause they won't stay on the rims ( ha ) but what
compression !!

you should buy some of kreepys foams on rccrawler. his are specially made for crawling. they have a slow rebound?...but it means it will compress better i guess.

thanks for the info - I looked at those after your message and really don't know what to make of them.. I think that a really soft foam ( tire compression ) with side-wall support is great... but I don't get the memory part of it..

after you run over something and compress the foam ( the foam gives ) you want it to come back again rather quickly I would think, other wise you are running with a flat spot while the foam regains its shape, and the tire really is out-of-round - - I dunno - -

guess I will wait for a bit before experimenting more

I appreciate the thought.. didn't even know about those Smile

gonna have to look at a softer compound tire - the rocks are o.k. but not "great"

well according to kreepy these will conform to the rock better. and there won't be any flat spots. i am just waiting for him to put a video up showing these things in action so that everyone will know how they work.

http://rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73965

this should help explain unless you have already been here.

hey,

here are a couple of his vids

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SogwvvKIx70

when you watch how slowly they reform - that's what got me concerned - they do re-shape but it takes an age to do it - thye sure must be soft though - I would like that - minus the "memory" effect Smile

i guess that he just did that to show the compression rate or something. but i do believe that these would work fine when on a rim. then they would more then likely return faster. and one last thing he had that scrunched up into a ball kind of.

P.S those viedos don't work for some reason.

I had a bunch of video related probs
( running xp ), and finally had to jump through hoops to re-install Windoze media player..........

since I have done that, all is good.....

( I was not able to see youtube before the re-install - - no idea as to what caused
the prob )

Next I'm going to try this channeling thing - it has good reviews ( see pic )

I've been eyeing that mod too, how did it work out for you ? I've ran the tires with no foam - great compression, unreal, but they won't stay on the rims - need bead-locks, but the ones that I have seen are rather pricey -

I might use "shoe goo" around the rim edge - it's like rubber when it sets, but you can still peel it off if you have too... outside of that, little "set screws" might work..

would like a pair of "moabs" but LHS doesn't carry them - RATS - mail order again Frown

well.. after some thought, I've ditched the foam entirely, and used "shoe goo" to attach the rocks to the rims.. will let it cure overnight, and take a run in the morning ..

I can always peel off the goo, and go for the foams again..

I think that I need a pair of
Axial 2.2 Rocksters Beadlock Black

although like everything else - out of stock Big Grin

the star foams are working great on the newbright. they seem to get softer over time too. so the tire will really conform to the environment.

dumping the foams and shoe gooing the tires is awesome - plenty of compression - I think that I will drill another hole in the rims to give it even more ( I can always cover it over if it's too much )

I think that I will look at these "moabs" next -

now that my NB is missing the "rocks" it doesn't seem to have any "bite" - even with the stock tires that I dremelled the h*ll out of... those stock tires just won't give as well Frown

dude, moabs are cheap! just find a good dealer... lhs was selling moabs for 36 a pair, which is crazy inflated, a complete set of 40 series beadlocks and moabs would have cost over 200 bucks there... you can find them for under a hundred EASY on the net... im looking for rims and tires right now and might get some cheap maximizers with red rocks (maxx size) but the maxx size red rocks are just as tall as the 40 series moabs but bounce more lugs fold in and doesnt grip as much and overall arent as good ... but the memory foam inserts might be the solution to that and make them an unstoppable tire

sorry missed this message - price is for two I believe - loooook real nice.......... just ordered some moabs $20 cdn a set.... am going to put the rocks back on my NB - its seemed to really get along o.k. with these tires, and an absloute minimum of supension work - I have also swapped out the motors for the "jammies", but it is "amost" stock......

using the 1250 mAh NB packs

gives me something different to try out while he WK get s rest every once and awhile Big Grin ( just love that thing - still bashin away with it - very minor alterations Smile )

got the parts ( all ) for the stretch / the gears / waiting on the 55t - man gonna miss ripping up the yard with it though Frown

ordered Sat. - arrive this thurs.... will go on WK, and the rocks will go back on the NB LR3 -

the LR3 has been laid up due to no tires ( for awhile ) - looking forward to getting it back out again Big Grin

tower has them real cheap at the moment

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=...PROFIL=++&search3=Go

I have a garden out back, that I am slowly filling with rocks ( over weed-killer tarp ) to give me a "playground" - no place to crawl around here ( at least I haven't found one )

some of you guys are "really" lucky to have the areas that you do !!!!
