Hey everybody!

You probably get a number of questions from newbies like me and so please bear with me - I have never owned a 4WD vehicle and now that my kids are getting a bit older, they're wanting to go off-roading. We love nature and being outdoors and my car (PT Cruiser) and my wife's van (Toyota Sienna) just aren't cut out for getting to places we'd like to go. I have five people (myself included) to transport and I have no idea which vehicle(s) would be our best option. I don't think I want a new one, but a new vehicle may be a viable option in another 6 to 12 months.

Questions: What would be a good, used 4WD big enough to seat five?

What would be a good new 4WD vehicle to seat five?

I like the look of Toyota's FJ Cruiser (but then I guess I would - I own a PT Cruiser, and neo-retro seems to be in my blood), but I don't know anything about its capabilities (or the capabilities of any off road vehicle, for that matter).

We're not looking to do any serious off-roading yet, but just to get out and drive some trails, maybe do some camping and hiking, etc. Mostly mild stuff - none of the extreme stuff I've seen pictured.

Thanks!!!

Rob

This might get a little more views down in the General 4x4 section.. but here goes.

How big are the kids and would there normally be 5 people out with you?

The Jeep XJs, Zjs, and WJs would work well with 4 people comfortably, but 5 might be pushing it.

An older Toyota FJ 60 might be what you are looking for. Very good capability and fairly large compared to most othere 'capable' 4x4s.

Or, IF you could find a landrover D110, that would be cool, but they are pretty rare in the states.
