What is it currently costing for hosting? Is there anyway that you can backup the database and move the entire board/site to a new server?

I may be able to help, but I need to know the above.

I guess I'd also need to know what bandwidth it uses, though I'm sure it isn't an outrageous amount...or is it?

If you want to PM me the details, thats great. I would give you full control of the site, I'd just provide any needed assistance and a place for it to live.

I'm game for the old boards as well. I checked my club's, and we use the phpbb2 boards. Not sure what is involved with setting them up, but our admin's seem to have pretty tight control. Moderator privilages seem pretty good to. (But then it's the only BBS I've ever been a moderator on.)

I don't post a whole lot but I do enjoy your BB.
The other BB I subscribe to uses this provider/server. vBulletin Version 3.0.3

don't know if that is what info you are looking for.
Hope things work out. keep up the great work.

I personally like the way phpBB interfaces with the user. I'm sure you can use it on monsterous forums no problems - lots of site run this program, and it would seem that how well it handles a large load has to do with picking the right database software(pSQL, not mysql Big Grin ). That and phpBB is opensource and hence freeware too.

If you need help with some php stuff and general web design/coding, just let me know. I have too much free time on my hands.

If you're gonna use the same forum software, just install the exact same version on your new server. Do a database dump into an sql file, copy the old config file or whatever had the settings into the new forum's software folder, and create a new database out of the sql dump - it should pick up right where it left off.

A couple other boards I visit have encountered the same dilemma and both of them independently arrived at the same conclusion:

Hey whatever you decide to do, I'm there, I'd hate to see important tech stuff lost, but its nothing that can't be replaced or archived somewhere for reference, hell if you just get rid of that Neverending Story thingy, it will probably save you some hard drive space Big Grin Rockcrawler

Scrap the Neverending story...it has gone on for a long time now,,,,

Just lead on and we'll follow...! Rockcrawler

It would be a great loss of knowledge to lose all the tech stuff, I know it has been a great help to me.

Mike I'm with the rest what ever you decide. The old forum format was fine too. Lots of options usually cost more $$$. Wish I knew more about this stuff.

Ya never know, maybe getting rid of all the tech thats on here and starting over might be kinda cool. We can once again have, indepth technical disscusions about things insteed of searching and not even having to post about anything. It could also help bring some more life into the board, maybe like it was before.

Not much of a computer guru, but this site has been one of my favorite resources as I've gotten into Jeepin' during the past year and a half. The wealth of tech info can't be recreated very quickly, and membership would probably suffer as people are forced to look elsewhere. I'd even be willing to send a few bucks to help if required to keep it up. Looks like the computer folks have a lot of good suggestions, I hope you find a solution soon!

Good luck,
Mark
