installing the rubicon express 3.5 in lift next week and i was wondering how bad the driveline vibes could be. I was originally going to go with the t case drop shim route, but after a long discussion with my mechanic i have opted to throw down some money for the sye custom driveshaft. My question is if i go with the hack and tap method how much will the driveshaft be. i found a tom woods on 4x4rockshop for 250ish but i was wondering if anyone knows a cheaper place to buy or another way of getting rid of driveline vibes

First you might not need a SYE. I have run a hack and tap now for going on 4 years. Worked flawlessly. Tome Woods last I knew will not make a drive shaft for the hack n tapFrown I just had my local machine shop make my drive shaft. the SYE end is from a 85ish cougar IIRC I can check on the parn number for you sometime I have an extra out in the garage some where. But at 3.5" lift you might not have to have a SYE then again what year also has a lot to do with the need.

I run an XJ front shaft in the rear of mine with the hackand tap. As for ordering from tom woods I am sure he will make what ever you order he probably just needs to know the length that you need.
Also you might look into getting a Xj front shaft and getting it cut down or at least using the CV part of it. Any local driveshaft shop should be able to match tomwoods price or close.

I know tons of people that have gotten away without a SYE and CV driveline with >3.5". It depends on whether your shackled or not and whether you've lowered your t-case (not recommended). When you do install the SYE and CV, you'll have to turn up your pinion. Easiest by shackling and maybe a small shim.

Vibrations are tricky. What works on one vehicle does not always work on another.

Have fun

I just lifted an Xj for the guy that works for me. We put in pro comp 3" springs with a Teraflex 1.5" spacer up front and AAL and shackles in the rear. No transfercase spacers or anything and his pinion angles came out perfect and he has no vibes throughout. Like law.74 said, what works on one, won't work on another.

Check out Mad 4wd for your driveshaft. I got my SYE kit through 4x4 Rockshop but I got my rear CV driveshaft shaft from Mad 4wd and it's good for 3-6" of lift.

Hope the link helps,
Rob
