As you all know the 4.0 six has a tendency to leak oil at the valve cover. This can range from a nuisance to oil running out like crazy when going up a steep off road climb.

I have not seen anyone post about this problem before, if I miss it sorry.

Any way after years of fooling around with the crappie cork gaskets that you can buy for $5.00 at any parts store and using silicon sealer (of all types) only to have the leak come back after a few months to a year. Also the guys at the dealer always seem to want to tell you they “WARP ALL THE TIME” you need a new valve cover.

OK I found the gasket that will fix the problem!!!

It is made by FEL-PRO (who else)part number VS 50522 T fits 1987 to 1995 and it is a relatively firm neoprene with a steel center and can be reused.
It is not cheap, I found it at www.rockauto.com it came to just under $40.00 to my front door. Tried several auto parts stores, they ether could not order it or did not feel like it.

It is part of the FEL-PRO high performance line so there may be some speed shops that might order it for you.

Works great on diffs and stuff that will not get the heating and cooling that an Engine gets. I have tried all of the silicones, including the industrial stuff that costs $100.00 a tube (don’t ask Wink) They will all leak when subjected to the kind of heat that an aluminum valve cover gets. Smile
Jeep uses a silicone "rope" on their replacement valve cover and even that will leak after about a year or so Frown

You may want to clean out the bolt holes. They get full of oil and the bolt basically hydrolocks as you tighten it but the valve cover is still loose. Not loose as in you can wiggle it around, just as time allows the oil to seep out and the bolts become loose.

leaking at the valve cover wasn't as bad as leaking out the airbox for me!
