The carpet is already out of the XJ and I was thinking of "rhino lining" it since I can get the kit thru my cousin who runs a Carquest and wanted to get some extra info.
1 Has it been done?
2 I have a huge bundle of wiring on the drivers side can that be rerouted it goes from around the console area and snakes to the left side.
3 How hard is it to take out the seats I have not taking the time to really look at the seats.

Yea, its been done. my buddies XJ is rino lined and so is his MJ. The seats shouldent be hard to remove. I know the rear is easy, it just kinda pops out. I havent looked at the fronts yet though...cant be too hard. Those wires can be routed under the center console too....

I ripped out the carpet and her'ced the inside of my 96, the problem that I have now is heat, it gets over 100 inside without some insulation around the tranny hump, but the herc is great in terms of simplicity. Seats are easy to remove, if they have never been out before, use som pb blaster or kroil to soak the threads on the bolts, even with that, my bet is the rear outside bolt will break off, I just drilled that out and replaced it with a new bolt. when you put the seats back in, use some neversieze on the threads, then they can go in and out easily and quickly....hth

Art: the carpet is already out and that is why i was thinking of rhino lining the tub because of the transmission hump gets so hot. but now thinking that it would probably increase the temp.
Might just do vinyl carpet from ebay made for the cherokee

If the XJ carpet was even remotely like my TJ carpet it may have had some heat shielding on the back. That's what keeps the inside of the TJ cooler with the carpet (passenger side anyway) in.

It might be useful to put some of the insulation wrap/cover under the tub between the tranny and metal and the exhaust. I've been looking for something that would live under the TJ like that, just haven't found it yet.

dynamat does good, it will keep the sound down and help with the heat. not as good as carpet, but it will help.

I thought of this post right before bedtime.

Yes the XJ Carpet has insulation for heat, without it it gets pretty unbearable even in the relatively cool NE, last weekends wheeling ended early for me just for that reason, it was about 105 in the cab, had to go sit in the sun a while to cool off.

Yeah go rhino line it! It will help with the heat. My '01 is lined and there no heat and sound plus I can just hose it off. How did my seats come out? ****in figure it out its not that hard. Next time you drive it, bend your *** over and open your eyes. Problem solved.

I used Durabak on my interior. I have a few pics on image station if you wanna check it out. There are some other pics of junk I did over the weekend. Feel free to ask me any questions. http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4285912297

What about the insulated rubber crap they lay down in fleet truck and van cabs? You can still hose it off (assuming you take care of the edges) and it insulates. Just a thought.

Has anyone tried that "quietcoat"? It's supposedly a visco-elastic polymer that you can paint on and it is 3x better than dynamat. You can check it out at quietcoat.com, was thinking of doing it to my xj, she's a little loud with just bare steel floors! Gonna por-15 the floor, then cover with quietcoat, we'll see how it works.

I have a TJ and over spring break I used speedliner with a hopper gun, works wonderfully and much quieter. I used two gallons (60$) great stuff but the downside is it takes 24hrs to dry.
