got a friend with and xj 94'. worked and ran great. jumped it 12 feet or so a few times now sputters when under acceleration and backfires often again under acceleration. plugs have carbon build up also.


changed fuel filter
changed cap and rotor
changed plugs
cleaned injectors and fuel rail (was taken apart not with tank additives)
changed wires
inspected tank for crud
cleaned air intake and filter

thinking next step is coil? but what else could it be?
possibly bad fuel pump?
seems to be getting worse with time. changing plugs seemed to have the greatest positive effect which leads me to the ignition system..

Smashed the tail pipe closed?
Do the jump in reverse should fix it.

thanks for advice it worked great... entire exhaust fell of and it's fine now.
