I saw an internet add for a gorilla winch? Any ideas on the quality of the product? I fried a mile marker on my CJ7 and need a cheap replacement.

Cheap winches do that. The problem is MileMarker isn't the leading brand...by a wide margin. You may get value for your money, or maybe it'll let you down when you need it the most. If you fried the Mile Marker, why not just get a replacement motor?

The reasons winch motors fail (cook) is almost always operator error or an electrical problem. Both of those will still exist if you put a Warn or Ramsey on the jeep. Correct the problems before you toss away more money. Never run one until it cooks. You've got hands, try resting one on your winch motor while its working. If you can't, it needs a rest and cool down.

You should have a bigger alternator, bigger battery, and upgraded cables (the bare minimum.) A manual throttle control helps because you can kick up the rpms to aid charging.

I actually saw one warn winch die from overuse about 28 years ago. It was one of the old 8274s, and they were dumping water by the bucket full on the motor so it would keep running. Finally, it failed. That was extreme abuse of a winch that had served the owner well. His fault, operator error.

My point of view - if a cheap winch fails you, you're going to trash another one, too.
