We picked up a "work truck" the other day just to have something around to hual parts and landscaping stuff in.

1974 Chevy 1 ton "Camper Special" 454cid Big Grin

Little rusty but I think maybe we can do something cool with it.

Kinda thinking we should build a "Trail Cleanup rig" out of it.

Equip it well enough to get out on the trials to take people up and clean up trails.

What do you think?

I had one of those back when I was building CJ's. It was a great DD, and I beat the snot out of it and it kept on ticking.

I'd say clean it up and try to repair all the rust spots, put some 32's or 33's on it since it's hard to work out of a tall lifted truck. Maybe do a paint job mostly to cover up the repairs. Macco could be your friend on that. Maybe go through and repair any motor/drive train issues so it will be dependable. Start a change jar to help pay for the gas for that thirsty 454. Wink

Paint it "Hugger Orange" and throw on some old school chrome wagon wheels with a chrome grill and it will look sweet.

two words: AS IS Big Grin

Seriously tho... If you're just gonna beat on it, just fix the 454 to keep it reliable and call it good. No sense in spending alot of $$$ on frivilous stuff like "paint". Razz

Well,

It is going to get some paint. The doors were very rusted and I put on a good set of gold doors. I am good with the looks, think the HOA might object though. I have 6 vehicles and only 5 garage places for them. So the truck be defualt is sitting outside. Need to clean it up just enough to not get lots of complaints.

I have put a little work into the truck. Still have a long way to go. I have decided to build a trail clean up truck. Something to use for trail clean up days and to promote a positive image of 4 wheeling. Those are 37s/beadlocks on 4" of lift. The body work will come soon.

I'm not sure Ren. I am open to suggestions.

I have some text I want to put on the truck to make sure people know that it was built by people and companies that want to take care of the environment.

I have considered just doing desert tan, or Olive Drab Green. Thinking of doing some nice looking stake sides or even a more custom bed.

Maybe we should have a design and paint contest for the truck?! Wink

Well before I was thinking hugger orange with some chrome waggon wheels for an "old school" 4wheeler type look. But now I see the direction your taking it and I like it! Too bad its not the diesel version....those are neat. I think my vote would be for the desert tan with some nice 1ft tall stake sides on it.

Just tell the Neighborhood Nazis to get a life, and point out more important things they need to worry about other than what's parked in YOUR driveway. Big Grin

I thought about some form of *urban camo*, but that's really not you. But I do like the idea of putting environmentally concious OHV organization logos on it! Then you can tell them it's to help educate the general public ( like themselves) and generate awareness to what real environmental work is all about.

Last minute edit after all the pic's loaded: They're worried about your truck and there's a porta potty on the curb???
