I always wondered why many guys have changed their rigs to LPG instead of regular fuel...
What are the advantages? Do carb engines get a more steady fuel(gas) flow and dont intend to die at steep climbs any more? Thanks |

It costs about 500$ to do, it works great because its gas and no worries about getting too steep and not having fuel. The reason for that is there is no float its just gas injected, you could roll over and the engine would still be firing as long as the oil doesn't get into the cylinders. You lose about 10% in horsepower but you have a cleaner burn 110 octane (meaning fewer oil changes and not as much carbon in the plugs). Two more down sides... finding a distributer for LP gas, and finding a place for the tank. It is very simple to take apart the carb and put back together (just need a flat head screwdriver). I was considering it not too long ago but I use my rig as a daily driver and the DOT wouldn't aprove of the external propane tank.

Thanks - just what I thought.
Well I use my rig off road about 99% of the time so I think LPG could be for me. I´m just getting tired of all the carb problems at steep climbs and had nothing but problems with all the aftermarket fuel injection systems. Well I hope that takes care of it..... |

I know this might be a little belated but theres a forum on pirate 4x4 somewhere that has a complete write up for a propane conversion. Hope it works out for you.
