Hi, im pretty new to winches and im looking for an inexpensive one to mount on my TJ occasionally for off road, but mostly for other uses, like pulling car frames, engines and such (do a lot of classic car rebuilding and use the jeep as a workhorse).

I came across this Duke winch, i know its not US made, but it has a good low load speed (42 ft/min and only 80amps) for a budget winch, which i could really use.

Any thoughts on this winch?

I've never heard of Duke until now but I did look over their site. So take this as a first impression. I would pass. Only 1 year waranty and 90 days on electronics? What happens when it gets wet? It doesn't appear to have a very good housing or be sealed very well. With as much as I've put into my Jeep, I couldn't afford to leave my rig dependent upon it.
Now if you're just planning to use it for shop work it may be a great deal. This of course is all being said without seeing any performance testing by a third party.
My opinion would be to go with a Mile Marker E9000. For about $100 more, it has a higer rating, it's sealed well, has a good housing and a longer waranty of 2 years plus it's made by a company that is well known.

I have a DU-9000M that is cradle mounted that I use. The only problem it had was there was not enough clearance between motor brushes and brush housing. It caused the winch to slow and stop. I'm a techie so I figured it out quick and filed a few thousandths (sp?) off the brushes. It now works lika a charm. I had a custom front receiver put on for front and rear operation. Since its cradle I keep it in the back. I used it to pull 2 Ford trucks out of the mudd yesterday :-)I have used it 5 times since the fix. I am happy with it. I don't know where you can get a cradle mount winch with the same pull even close to the price. I looked for months!
