I'm thinking of buying a new truck and wondered how the F-250 Super Duty Crew Cabs, and the new F-150 SuperCrews were doing for ya'll that have them.

For the Super Duties;
I Like the Power Strokes, but fuel is higher and the cost of the motors are more up front. Is the cost worth it?

Does anyone have the 5.4 with an auto in the SD CrewCab short bed? If so, tell me about it. Does it seem to have enough power? Or, is it in labor to move the truck with any kind of load? Since I live in the Ozarks, I need something that is going to have enough power to run in the hills yet be reasonable on mileage.

On the F-150 SuperCrews:
Is anyone having problems with them?

How are they on mileage?

How are they on towing (3-4Klbs)?

Any other info ya'll might have is greatly appreciated!

Boy...I'm glad to see such an overwhelming response. Eek Maybe I should have posted this on the Ford board. It just didn't look like there was much activity there.

My wife has a new F-150 extended cab 4x4 lariat with the 5.4ltr and it runs pretty good with a fair amount of power.

We used to have a 2000 with the same set up and I pulled my pontoon boat with it, it did ok, but to be honest I wouldn't want to use one for heavy pulling, especially someplace with alot of hills.

My Dodge diesel I had might have spoiled me though, it pulled anything and everything I put behind it with no hesitation and the fuel mileage didn't change much with or without load, diesel fuel is more expensive now than it was when I owned my diesel, but it was a 3/4 ton HD 4x4 and it got better mileage than my Rubicon does now, so the fuel mileage and beef required to tow would out weigh any additional cost to me if I wanted something to tow with, i'll never own another truck for myself that isn't diesel....

Yeah...Yeah...I know. I had 2 97 F-150's and didn't have very good luck with either. I just atributed it to being a new truck for Ford and figured they've surely gotten the bugs worked out by now. I like the way they look but, I'm still a little sceptical. That's kind of the reason for my post.

I like the idea of the Power Wagon, but I'd really rather have something with a Crew Cab. I wonder if Dodge will offer the PW in a Crew Cab version later this year or next?

I've got an 03 Chevy but I don't like the looks of the frontend. So...for a crew cab, I'm kinda looking at either the Ford or GMC's.

My father in law is a die hard Ford fan. He just purchased a brand new F350 Diesel. His last truck, 2wd, F-250, Diesel had over 180,000 hard miles.

The $5000 extra for Diesel will be made up for in time, especially if you tow. The average gas mileage towing a rig on a trailer with a gas rig is someplace around 8 mpg, I used Bob's truck coming back from Disney OK to Houston, TX and got over 18 MPG while towing.

In my Cummins Turbo Diesel I am currently averaging 18.2 MPG - that's around town, hwy and towing up here in CO.

Plus the Diesel is just coming into it's lifespan at 100,000 miles. For a gas truck your starting to look at the old end of life and how do I trade this in with 6 figures showing on the odo.

So if you tow, plan on keeping the truck for a while, take long trips then I would suggest the Diesel.

If you only tow once or twice a year, trade your rig in every two or three years, don't run a lot of miles then you might be better off with the gasoline model.

Keep in mind that a diesel oil change will run alsmot double a gas rig; as will other types of maintenance.

I won't go back to Gas.. but I tow are least once a month, drive 30,000+ miles per year and need the power to get over the passes.

Is that enough for my $0.02? Do I get any change back?

Dr. R, I haven't ruled out Dodge, I'm just more interested in a Crew Cab. I'm tired of my youngest boy using my console as a foot rest in my extended cab. It's aggravating when you're kind of dressed up to go out on the town, and ya put your elbow in mud that came off you son's shoes. Depending on how long it takes me to make up my mind and how long it takes Dodge to get their Crew Cab on the market, I may go Dodge.

Thanks Shawn! Sound advice! What folks I've talked to locally aren't getting as good of mileage on their 6.0L's as what you'd stated. But, I'm not sure the guys I've talked to really have done their math correctly. I've never owned a diesel and have never checked mileage on any of the F-450 Bucket Trucks I've driven. I don't tow all that much anymore so the need isn't really there. I've just always thought the Power Stroke was one of Ford's best engines. That and, I'm not sure I want foot the gas bill on a V10. We've got a couple of F-250's at work with the 5.4L's in them and they seem to do ok, but when towing one of our backhoes or generators around, they sometimes seem like they have to work really hard to do the job.

Jason, I haevn't offically looked at them but, I've been picking them out on the road. I probably will go to a dealer and test drive one before I buy though.

When I got my 05 f250 Diesel I was impressed with all that power and towing it could do. Didnt get that 17-20 mpg like everyone said, but now that its driven a while, bout 6k its doing much better. Hwy, i can easily get 17, and 19 on a good day round 70mph. It slowly is going up so im not sure if its gonna level off there or get me into the 20's. No matter how hard I drive it, i cant get it below 15 unless im towing a lot. My first Diesel and I love it. Just my thoughts
