Not exactly.. remember this is a proposal not a fact at this point. Here's a message from Del and FOTR. Not saying they can fix everything but... they know it's anuphill battle and they are trying to fight it.

The Proposal -- good, bad and ugly

Folks, I'm working my way thru forums and such trying to provide answers as best I can. If you see my name crop up where folks (like here) are looking for me, please drop me a personal email. I'm busier than a bee trying to stay caught up.

So here is my input.
1. This is just a proposal. It is written by an environmental consulting group for the county. The trail needs some changes -- some management or we will lose more than you can imagine. But we are NOT going to accept this propsal as written...not all of it.

2. We don't need to throw out the plan. That won't go anywhere. Altho, like I told NotPretty, if that is what you want to write in your letter, have at it. I support your right to say what you feel. But I'm suggesting it's a total waste of time. We need to be on the fixit team. There are things in this proposal we need to have happen -- like pack it out as a mandatory thing until we get potties built.

3. I don't like many of the things mentioned in the plan. Now I have to go work overtime to make comments on all those and provide legitmate, worthy input so people will listen. I hope you will too (or follow the lead of comments made by folks you know and trust).

4. This proposal still has to work it's way thru the ROC. Then the Board of supervisors. Then the feds have to go thru the NEPA process for stuff on federal land. and on and on and on....this will take some time.

5. I am building a web page about this with a shortened version with some suggested comments and things to think about under each one of the recommendations provided by ESP to the county. Don Klusman from Cal4 is helping me, as are other members of FOTR. We are all working hard to make sense of this and to figure out what needs to go OUT THE DOOR! I hope to have it up soon for you.

6. It continues to amaze me how folks come out of the wood work on these things and start shooting bullets. Over and over again many of us have posted the need to be involved in this process, to read the FOTR email network, to read the Rubicon Trail Home page, to follow the ROC meeting notes or come to meetings, and so on.....OR at least to trust those folks who have volunteered to step up to the plate and lead the charge. I applaud the kind of thing where someone says: I need to hear from Del (or Rusty or the Pirates or Cruzila or Mike or Jose Cuervo)......before they start slamming something.

7. There will be another meeting about this proposal on Jan 22nd in Pville. If you can be there, do it. If not, put your coments together and find a proxy (someone you trust) to take your comments to the meeting. Get your voice heard. Write your letter AFTER you read the whole thing or read what someone else has written about it who DID read and understand it. Get on the fixit team with me.

That may not be the smartest way to motivate people.

Emotional appeals are a viable way to increase participation and activity in land use, but you've got be extremely careful...you don't want to LIE or MISLEAD people. It may temporarily get people riled up in a sort of mob-mentality, but all it really does is destroy your credibility, decreasing the likelyhood of ever getting those particular folks truly active in land use because of the bad taste you'll leave in their mouth. Basically, it'll turn you into "The Boy who Cried Wolf".

The fact of this particular matter is that this is simply an outside consultant's proposal. And it will never, ever see light of day in its current form.

well you can argue your point, but the fact remains that people need to get involoved and do something, i donate to the right places and clean up trash that's not mine tread lightly etc. If everyone on this board did that it would make a huge differnce, and if appealing to their emotional side is what it takes then so be it. Also don't belive that it a paid outside consultant's proposal wont see the light of day, it just may happen.

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!!

I never said appealing to their emotion side is a bad thing to do. In fact, what I said is "emotional appeals are a viable way to increase participation...", meaning that it's FINE to do so. I too employ similar tactics from time to time. I simply said be careful to not to LIE or MISLEAD people.

Also, I hope you didn't take my post the wrong way, because it most certainly was not intended to be offensive or confrontational in any way. If I offended you, I apologize. I was just trying to help you out with some friendly advice that someone wiser than myself once told me about motivating people to get involved with land use.

no offense taken I just wish people would pull it togather and realize things like this are going to happen if they don't take time to help with things like FOTR or even local trail cleanups BRC etc, heck I would just be happy if everyone cleaned up after them selves, we took 4 bags of trash out of JV last weekend that wasn't ours, to be honest I really think they are on the right path with SOME of the things in that propasal, please note I said SOME and evan at that I think they are a lot shy of a good fair ploicy. Thanks for your constructive critisism, btw I really suck at spelling Big Grin

THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS!!
