Garmin seems to be the most user freindly of the GPS's. The Legend is pretty nice, and I've seen some places that have a $30 rebate right now.

jeepboy-

I too am a Garmin fan. But what you didn't say is how you plan to use it:
- handheld/wearable/battery ops
- vehicle mounted/ext. power
etc.
These things will make a difference in your satisfaction with the unit. The units with larger screens, more memory and "real" compass will suck batteries dry in no time. (ps, "real compass" means you don't need to be moving for it to provide you with a heading). Some of the better units that have these features will allow you to disable them to extend battery life. Other features like detachable antenna allows the use of an auxillary or more efficient antenna when mobile, but the compact internal or small external antenna when operating hand-held. Do you need a built-in map or are general waypoints sufficient? Lastly (for now!) most of the newer units allow you to upload/download routes from your PC, a nice feature for pre-planning your trek or figuring out later exactly where you were!

I can share more info if you're not already asleep! Smile
