this Geo Caching section has been here forever, but I really never paid attention to it until today when I looked into caching,,,it looks like a blast...but someone fill me in on the whole trinket swap thing. I assume you take and you give back, do you just leave anything, or are are you guys making trinkets with info on them to tell who placed it and where it originated from, etc. I'm just curious, someone fill me in on how this whole thing works, I mean I got the basics, get coordinates, find cach, etc. but is there something more? And also, what is a good "cheap" GPS to start out with?

Go to geocaching.com for all hte *poop*! General idea is to trade things of equal or greater value. People put all kinds of stuff in the caches, especially new ones, so the "First to Find" gets something special. Then there's all the yellow Jeep 4x4 travel bugs too. Then there are virtual caches, which are simply something cool to go see that may be off the beaten path, or not very well know about. I've run across some really cool virtual's around here.
The Garmin E-Trex or Gecko 101 are good basic units, priced around the $99 mark. Go check out 4x4Rockshop, Mike has a good selection at good prices. You can go as crazy in price as you want. |
